PD Measurement Tool

What is Partial Discharge?

Partial Discharge (PD) is an electrical discharge or spark that bridges a small portion of the insulation between two conducting electrodes when being under high voltage stress.

What causes Partial Discharge?

  • Bubbles within liquid insulation.
  • Voids within solid insulation.
  • Floating particles in gas insulation.
  • Irregularities on the surface of insulating material.
  • Damaged insulation materials.

What Does Partial Discharge do?

mmt Partial discharges can propagate and develop into electrical trees, eroding insulation and eventually result in insulation failure causing breakdown to earth or between the phases.

Partial Discharge Measurement Tool

The Partial Discharge Measurement Tool (PDMMT) is used to detect local electrical discharges in High Voltage cables or components. It uses a MS Windows based computer and a Data Acquisition Card which makes it portable, versatile and powerful.
