Efficient reading of meters with RS232 multi-drop interfaces via RS485/422 lines
Our converter is a DIN Rail mounted state of the art meter reading unit optimised to read meters with RS 232 type of interfaces. It allows to set-up hardwire AMR systems with up to 200 converters connecting to up to 20 meters each. The converters can be distributed over a distance of up to 1200 m.

The MIU 100 is used to design hardwire AMR systems for commercial and industrial buildings connecting up to 4000 meters attached to one line. The device produces all necessary signals and incorporates all necessary logic for efficient remote meter reading.
Principles of operation
The MIU 100 is a full transparent signal converter interfacing between meters attached to RS232 multi drop lines with remote power supply and 4 wire RS 485/422 lines connecting the dedicated converters to a central data concentrator or AMR system.
The MIU 100 is able to produce sufficient power to supply up to 22 remote powered RS 232 interfaces via the DCD line and provides only power for the remote RS 232 interfaces if there is traffic on the RS 485 / 422 line. If there isn’t any communication ongoing on the line the DCD pin gets de-energized and all attached meters work in the local mode.
